Cause
98 to 99% of individuals diagnosed with this disorder have a history of frequent traumatic abuse, either verbal, sexual, or physical. This abuse is often constant, overpowering, and life-threatening, and at a fragile age, usually 9 or under. The subject has an abnormal ability to dissociate, or distance, themselves from a situation (or memory) mentally. Also, a history of being surrounded by dissociative subjects at an easily-influenced age, or not having a supporting figure to shelter from the abuse are major causes.
